Integrated Sericulture Development Project(ISDP)
The Government of India has approved a Project-based strategy for the North East Region under an umbrella scheme by name “North East Region Textile Promotion scheme”. This umbrella scheme will be implemented in the North East Region in addition to the regular schemes of the Ministry. The expenditure under this scheme will be met from the 10 percent budget outlay being earmarked for the North Eastern States. Planning Commission allocated a provision of Rs.1038.10 crore for NERTPS in 12th Plan. Directorate of Sericulture, Assam under NERTPS has implemented 2 (two) Projects in Assam:
- Integrated Sericulture Development Project (ISDP)
- Intensive Bivoltine Sericulture Development Project (IBSDP)
Objectives of ISDP:
- Revival, expansion, and diversification of sericulture in the state with special emphasis on Muga and Eri Silks.
- Improving productivity and quality at all levels starting from cocoon production to fabric production through skill upgradation and integrated extension support.
- Horizontal expansion of food plants with an improved package of practices with the convergence of MGNREGA.
- Generating income of the target groups through Sericulture.
- Creating sustainable livelihood.
